Much the same story can be told for real wages in the manufacturing sector. Chart Nineteen shows inflation-adjusted wages for the manufacturing sector from 1947 to 2006. (This data set goes back farther than that for the whole private sector.) Inflation-adjusted manufacturing wages peaked in 1978 and have fallen since.
